MY GREAT GRAND FATHERS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS HAD COFFEE LANDS IN THE MOUNTAINS OF TEPECOYO, LA LIBERTAD, EL SALVADOR. I BELIEVE COFFEE IS A PASSION THAT I'M CONNECTED TO. IT’S IN MY VEINS.
AFTER THE CLIMATE CHANGE RELATED LEAF RUST PLAGUE DEVASTATED MANY PLANTATIONS IN MANY CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES, I BEGAN DOCUMENTING PROJECTS SUCH AS "BLUE HARVEST" AND "ASA" THAT WANTED TO RESCUE COFFEE FARMS, SPECIALLY WITH SMALL PRODUCERS. LOOSING COFFEE FARMS MEANT LOSING IMPORTANT ECOSYSTEMS AND WATER RECHARGE AREAS.
WITH MY JOB AS A DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER, I STARTED TAKING PHOTOS OF THE ART OF PLANTING AND PROCESSING COFFEE, THE WHOLE CHAIN FROM SEED to CUP THAT MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO GET OUR ADORED MORNING ELIXIR. I GOT TO KNOW COFFEE ROASTERS, CUPPING EXPERTS, AWARDED FARMS. IN THIS PROCESS I HAVE LEARNT ABOUT HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING ITS CULTIVATION IN LATIN AMERICA.
IN THIS JOURNEY IN THE COFFEE WORLD I HAVE LEARNT THAT GREENER SOIL AND WATER FRIENDLY PRACTICES ARE POSSIBLE TO TAKE CARE AFTER THIS BELOVED PLANT. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS PICTURES OF COFFEE'S PERFECTLY MATCHED RED CHERRIES AND IT'S VIVID GREEN COLORS OF ITS LEAFS AND, OF COURSE, THE UNFORGETTABLE FACES OF THE COFFEE PICKERS IN THIS GALLERY.
